V2 (02/15/2026)
At DGL Bros, all members are required to take on a service positoin after their introductory 90-day period. This document outlines the roles and guidelines for each service position.
All DGL Bros are required to do a monthly service check-in on the ββ Service Check-In [S]β channel after their 90-day introductory period as part of our group's continuing commitment to service and accountability.
Please note that the Service Check-In Channel is NOT the same as the "Service" Channel. See explanation below.
"β Service Check-In [S]" is the correct channel for service check-ins
"βοΈ Service [S]" is NOT the correct channel for service check-ins
The service check-in should include numerical figures of service work done where applicable, though exact figures are not necessary. The reflection should include insights gained from service, emotions, thoughts, or feelings.
For ease of shepherd(s)/admin(s), please kindly begin your monthly check ins in the following format:
β[Name], [Month] [Year] Service Check inβ
e.g.
βJohn T, March 2026 Service Check in:β
This helps streamline the admin teamβs efforts to keep track of user activity, as often the "find" feature is used in WhatsApp to retroactively check.
Examples:
After their 90-day introductory period, DGL initates are required to undergo their first service training, where they ascend to Rank 1 Service Positions. The Rank 1 Service positions of Chaplain, Announcer and Intaker form the core of DGL Bros service.
Rank 1 Service brothers may elect to take multiple rank 1 roles, but only one is required. If service brothers take multiple rank 1 roles, they only need to fultill the minimum duties of one of their roles each month for their monthly service check-in.
Chaplains support DGL Bros retention by proactively reaching out to and encouraging brothers, especially newcomers and less active members. As the recovery maxim states, "We donβt need to know more, we need to be reminded more."

βοΈ Chaplain Call Guidelines
A chaplain call is an informal service-oriented outreach call for DGL Bros only. Outside outreach calls are not considered chaplain calls.
The focus of a chaplain call is to support DGL Bros by listening and offering feedback when and if the brother receiving the chaplain call consents. Chaplain calls are informal and there is no required script or structure for calls.
Recommended topics and discussion suggestions for chaplain calls:
Ask how things are going with their: life, recovery, top-line activities, goals, accountability, or service work
Tell them they are seen, heard, and accepted where they are
Ask if they are "open to feedback." If they are, offer experience, strength, hope, empathy, and encouragement
Healthy boundaries around feedback are esential to cultivate a sense of safety. It is important to ask for a fellowβs consent before offering feedback or support, but non-feedback empathy and resonation is always welcome.
βοΈ Example call:
Chaplain: βHello Bob, how are you?β
Bob: βIβm not doing so well, I have been kind of down lately and behind on my DGLs.β
Chaplain: β I understand. It sounds like you are having a tough time. Would you like to share whatβs going on?β
Bob: βSure. I am going through a tough time with XYZ, and I feel awful.β
β
Appropriate Response:
Chaplain: βIβm sorry to hear about that. It sounds really tough. Would you be open to receive feedback and encouragement on that?β
Bob: βNo. I am tired of hearing peoples' feedback.β
Chaplain: βI understand. You are seen, heard, and accepted where you are."
Bob: βThank you for accepting me where I am at."
β Inappropriate Response:
Chaplain: βXYZ sounds tough. Have you ever tried silent meditation?β
Bob: βI'm not interested in silent mediation.β
Chaplain: βYou shouldn't say that until you try it. Iβm telling you it works.β
Bob: βWho do you think you are to tell me what to do? Do you even understand what I am going through?β
Chaplain: βYou should stop complaining and just meditate. It would fix all your problems.β
Bob: βI'm tired of you and DGL Bros. This is very unhealthy for me.β (hangs up the phone, leaves group)
Unsolicited feedback giving may repel people, or recreate dysfunctional savior-saved dynamics that do not serve either party. We ask chaplains to keep this in mind as they do their required weekly chaplain call.
Reflection Question β When was a time you were not ready to recevive feedback, someone gave it anyways, and you felt hurt?
Announcers help spread the message of DGL Bros by posting the DGL Bros blurb at appropriate meetings, in the spirit of the 12th tradition. At DGL Bros, we believe in the 12-step principle of attraction rather than promotion. We don't try to convince, chase, or persuade anyone to join DGL Bros. We simply share that such a community and practice exists, and allow those interested to reach out.

Once they have read the charter and they indicate they would like to join DGL Bros, the announcer promptly forwards their contact information, including their first name, last initial, location (if known) and phone number to the "π₯ Intake [S]" channel, where intakers can scehdule an intake call.

π₯ Intaker Instructions [Intake Part 2/3]
The intaker reaches out to the DGL newcomer, identifying themself as a DGL Intaker and asking when they are available to do the DGL Intake call.Β
β° Intake calls typically last 30 - 40 min.
The intaker greets the newcomer and asks them if they'd like to share for 3 minutes on what brought them to SLAA. The Intaker can also share briefly about their own story if they feel moved to do so. [5 - 10 minutes]
The intaker asks the newcomer to read aloud the DGL Charter at dglbros.com/charter, and periodically offers clarifications or explanations at appropriate pauses in speaking, should the newcomer have any questions.
The intaker bears witness to the newcomer taking the DGL safety and security vow, as written in the charter.
Once the newcomer has taken the vow, the intaker informs moderators in the "π₯ Intake [S]" channel indicating the newcomer is ready to be added.
Brothers with over 180 days of active status qualify to become a Guardian, or Level 2 service brother. Guardian positions have a higher level of responsibility than Level 1 positions, including leadership and administrative tasks that enable DGL Bros to function effectively.Β
The only requirement for long-term DGL Bros membership is fulfilling the duties of a single Rank 1 position. Rank 2 or Rank 3 positions are voluntary, for dedicated brothers who wish to take their recovery to the next level.
Captains' jobs are to lead and manage their respective team of service brothers. There are two captain roles in DGL Bros, the Intake Captain and the Chaplain Captain.

When acting as a moderator, it is important to maintain a demeanor of neutrality and courtesy. There may be something that a moderator dislikes or disagrees with, but as long as it abides the group principles as stated in the charter, it is critical that all voices be heard.
